Hello

In the meantime before I get to meet you, here's a bit about me.

I am a detailed, creative, thinker who can find the organizing
motifs in the most complex of learning goals.

I haven't just been designing for learning,
I have been sitting down with learners
and learning how they learn
for over 15 years.

MY STORY

The art of facilitating learning runs like a thread throughout my career and training.  From pastor to teacher to stay-at-home parent, I have been learning to design instruction long before I ever heard of ADDIE or SAM.

A bachelors degree in interpersonal communication immersed me in the dynamics of how people understand each other, and how to bridge understanding across gender, culture, and leadership.

masters degree sharpened my research skills and written communication while introducing me to adult learning paradigms for facilitating growth.

Nearing the completion of my graduate certificate in instructional design has brought my knowledge and experience into the paradigms, principles, and tools of instructional design.

But, it has been my work with people that has taught me how we learn.

As a nonprofit program director and and educator, I have...
Analyzed hundreds of learners needs and learning styles
Designed everything from lessons to multi-unit courses and full-day trainings
Developed countess bespoke presentations, job aids and assessments
Implemented in person, blended, and online trainings
Evaluated and tracked knowledge and soft skill acquisition of a dizzying diversity of learner profiles.

I have sat down with those who wanted to learn but felt it was impossible
and those who ate up everything I could hand them faster than I could satisfy.

I understand not only how people learn, but what keeps us from learning.

BEING HUMAN

When I'm not building learning, I'm taking care of my two wonderful kids and enjoying life in Toledo with my wife and our ancient tabby cat, Fred.

In the margins of our young family, I'm often busy building...and learning!

I recently framed up walls for my basement woodshop where I was quickly busy making Christmas gifts.  I'm unabashedly proud at how my monogrammed album cover stand for my dad turned out!

As a drummer for the past twenty years, I'd always dreamed of exploring the other half of the rhythm section.  These last few years I've loved learning bass guitar, and even went so far as to paint and build my own.
